5 Takeaways: Chaminade-Madonna at Forest Hill
Chaminade-Madonna, out of Hollywood, made the trip north to West Palm Beach on Tuesday night to face Forest Hill in a non-district battle of two undefeated programs.
In the end, Forest Hill prevailed 76-74 on a tip-in at the buzzer. Here are the top 5 takeaways from West Palm:
The Hero
Tylor Miller finished with just a handful of points, but the 6-foot-6 senior’s tip-in at the buzzer sent Forest Hill past Chaminade-Madonna and kept Tony Watson‘s (pictured) Falcons unbeaten at 5-0.
Chaminade-Madonna senior Justin Palacios had tied the game with two free throws with 16.4 to play.
“Tylor is probably one of the best athletes in the city,” Watson said of the Santaluces transfer. “He is slowly but surely coming around. We’re going to expect more from him.”
Very well ends differently … if
The game took a clear change late in the second quarter when Chaminade-Madonna standout Toumani Camara — a 6-foot-7 University of Georgia signee — and Michael Edwards collided under the Lions’ bucket.
Camara took the worst of it, with a bad cut above his eye and on his nose. He was taken to be further checked out and did not play after the collision.
“No concussion but I have six stitches: four on top of my eye and two by my nose,” Camara said Wednesday.
Chaminade had controlled the first half prior to Camara being injured. The Lions led 23-18 after one and 40-34 at the half. Camara had 7 points and 9 rebounds.
Palacios led Chaminade with 18 points. Dax Kaye (2020) and Pierce Trop (2020) each had 14.
Falcons can thank bench
Forest Hill can thank its bench for the victory.
The Falcons’ five starters scored just 3 of 18 first-quarter points and 9 of the 34 in the first half.
Reserve Brayden Washington finished with 11 points. Fellow backups Rodrick Johnson and Jalen Jeter finished with 9 and 8 points, respectively. Senior Torrin Andrews led Forest Hill with 14 points.
“Our starting lineup gives us a little more height, a little more length,” Watson said. “But our bench provides us with a little more athletic ability.”
Living in the 90s
Forest Hill went into the game averaging 95.7 points per contest, but was held down into the mid-70s by Chaminade (3-1).
The Falcons had put up 91 vs. Palm Beach Gardens; 99 against Benjamin; 97 vs. Boynton Beach; and 96 in a win over Park Vista.
Franklin still on shelf
Chaminade-Madonna is looking forward to getting sophomore guard Thaddius Franklin on the court.
The University of Miami football commit broke his collarbone and will be out another two weeks, he said Tuesday.
