5 Stars of the Game: St. Rita vs St. Ignatius
St. Rita and St. Ignatius opened up the Boys portion of the Chicago Elite Classic on Friday night in a very hard-fought contest. The game went back and forth for most of the time, but St. Rita took control in the fourth quarter and came away with a 56-47 victory. Here are my five stars of the game:
1 Star: Stedmon Ihejirika – the 6’5’’ Senior from St. Rita is an absolute workhorse. Ihejirika caught my attention right away by setting the tone with his high motor and willingness to rebound on both ends of the floor. Very strong finisher at the rim.
2 Stars: Joel Watts – Watts is a Junior PG at St. Rita and can really make things happen with the ball in his hands. At 5’11’’, he possesses the tools to attack the hoop quickly off the dribble, or drive and dish to his teammates. Watts is a very confident long-range shooter, with a seemingly unlimited range.
3 Stars: Ben Vyverberg – an extremely efficient role player out of St. Ignatius who can make things happen down low. The 6’1’’ Senior Forward was 3-3 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line and really helped keep St. Ignatius in the game.
4 Stars: Daniel Florey – the 6’3’’ Junior Combo Guard from St. Ignatius is a very mature and confident player who excels in every facet of the game. Florey is probably known most for his knockdown 3-point shooting, but he is very smart with the ball in his hands and very smooth driving in the lane. Florey led all scorers in the game with 16 points to go along with five rebounds.
5 Stars: Jeremiah Oden – Oden is a 6’7’’ Senior guard out of St. Rita with great length and athleticism and can play all five positions on the floor. He runs the floor very well and looks to grab every rebound he can. Oden finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
