It’s either now or never for the senior high school basketball players.
I have spent time watching tons of teams, and I have paid attention to the matured players on the roster. I wanted to see what the seniors were made of. Can they make a positive impact in a game? Can they deliver in crunch time? How are their attitudes on the court?
These type of things matter when you’re an upperclassman.
Some people may disagree with my list and that’s okay. People are entitled to say whatever they want.
But, I went with what I saw, and if I missed out on a senior, then I’m sorry. I will be sure to get him the next go around.
Enough of me running off at the mouth, here are the five best seniors since Thanksgiving:
Calvin Temple, Center Hill
Temple had 26 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals against Bearden in the Lighthouse Classic. He made 6 of 11 shots from 3. He struggled in the Mustangs’ next two games against Tupelo and Lafayette, scoring just 14 points in both games. He bounced back with a 37-point performance against Hernando. Center Hill is currently 9-0, and Temple is a big reason why.
Ques Glover, Bearden
Glover is a physical guard who wants to attack. I saw him twice in the Lighthouse Classic. He can shoot the long ball, and he’s pretty efficient from the free throw line. He scored 28 against Mountain Brook and 18 against Center Hill. The Bulldogs have won two straight since losing back-to-back. Glover is one of the best leaders at the point guard spot this year.
James Wiseman, Memphis East
I have yet to see anyone who can hold Wiseman. He’s 7-foot, so it will be hard to find a post player who can guard him. Wiseman is a versatile big man that can shoot from the perimeter. Highlight dunks are just the entertaining part of his game. Wiseman has been averaging a double-double this season. He’s coming off a 31-point, 24-rebound performance against Raleigh-Egypt Wednesday night.
D.J. Jeffries, Olive Branch
Jeffries has to play well for the ‘Quistors to have a chance at winning a game. His skill set is unmatched. Yes, Jeffries may have a bad shooting night, but one way or another, he’s going to score. That’s just how special he is. Jeffries finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 65-55 loss to Scott County in the Marshall County Hoopfest. He’s been an offensive specimen since the start of the season.
Bruce Guy Jr., Cordova
The senior forward can play three different positions. The Iona commit played well in the 5th Annual Renee Scales Lupus Classic. He had 25 against MHEA and 14 against Holly Springs. Guy was all over the glass. He delivered when the Wolfpack needed him the most.
