4A Southwest Overview: Standings & Standouts
We are a good portion of away through the season and I think it is time to look at some region standings and discuss what the potential future may look like for these regions/teams. Here is the 4A Southwest Overview:
Standings: As of 12/9/18
1. Buckeye 0-0 (Region) 5-0 (Conference) 5-0 (Overall)
2. Estrella Foothills 0-0 (Region) 2-1 (Conference) 2-1 (Overall)
3. Yuma 0-0 (Region) 0-0 (Conference) 0-4 (Overall)
4. Gila Ridge 0-0 (Region) 0-2 (Conference) 0-3 (Overall)
5. Youngkey 0-0 (Region) 0-5 (Conference) 0-5 (Overall)
Top Players:
Otis Frazier (Buckeye): Frazier is one of the best players in the 2019 Class. He is an elite scorer, who has the capability of getting to the rim at anytime and is a nightmare in transition due to his size, speed, and bounce. He has also improved as a shooter and has been showcasing that in their latest games.
Tay Boothman (Buckeye): Boothman is a great shooter. He causes a lot of problems for opposing defenses. You have to play extremely high up on Boothman, leaving room for blow by’s and creating open space. Boothman is a very willing passer in transition, always looking to get Frazier a highlight dunk.
Isaiah Marin (Buckeye): This Buckeye team is already very good and I think they improve greatly with the addition of Marin. He will allow a lot more opportunities for Boothman and Frazier offensively. I think the addition of Marin puts them in the top 4 teams in 4A.
Projection
I do not see much fire power in this region that can hang with the offensive power that is Buckeye Union. I think Buckeye wins this region easily and makes a solid run in the state tournament.
