3 UP:
- Scotty Draud, Beechwood – As a freshman, Scotty averaged 21 points per game. He’s kicked his game up a level this year. After 4 games, Draud is averaging 31.8 points and just shy of 7 rebounds per night. Last night, Northern Kentucky, Morehead State and Cincinnati all watched the 6’5 Sophomore lead Beechwood to a win over Scott.
- Taylor County – After winning only 5 games last season and their coach resigning 2 weeks before the season, Taylor is off to a hot 3-0 start with a chance to get a big district win at Campbellsville tonight. Senior Trevon Smith is averaging 27.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while his little brother Kybrin Smith is averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds. After suffering through a tough 2017-18 season, Taylor County looks to be turning it around pretty quickly.
- Jamison Epps, Marion County – Marion got a pair of wins and the 6’5 Junior forward had 16 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists against Bardstown then followed that up with 17 points and 17 rebounds against Washington County.
3 DOWN:
- Ballard – The Bruins needed overtime to dispatch of a very inexperienced Fern Creek team (no disrespect to FC. They will be great by February) and then got a running clock on Friday night when they traveled to Scott County. The Cardinals beat them 85-57 in a game that wasn’t even that close. Coach Renner’s team has a chance to bounce back with two wins this week against Waggener and North Oldham.
- Eastern – Staying in the same district, Eastern has started the year with losses to Manual and Frankfort. The Frankfort loss is especially glaring as the Panthers are a middle of the pack team in the 11th region at best. With some Senior leadership and a big time freshman talent in James Jewell, Eastern had some picking them as a threat to win the 7th. So far they’re struggling just to win a game.
- Bryan Station – The Defenders are off to a rough start. After falling to Dunbar by 11, they got double up by Moeller out of Ohio as they took an 85-42 loss. This team is young and small but I expected them to play hard for new coach Nimbo Hammonds. This particular team isn’t super talented so the new coaching staff has their work cut out for them if they’re going to even be competitive in a district featuring Scott County and Henry Clay.
