Riverton was clinging to a 2 point lead it seemed like the entire game. Woods Cross was able to get some key stops. Jake Howe had a great block that lead to an easy layup. Tyler Roberts hit a big three-pointer and prompted Riverton to call a timeout. Woods Cross was up two points when they called a set play that led to a three-pointer of their own. The game went back and forth but Riverton took advantage of Woods Cross when they had Jake Howe, Tyler Roberts and Elliot Spencer on the bench. The Silver Wolves went on a run and never looked back. Spencer Elliot had a great steal but the Wildcats failed to score and Riverton escaped with a win.
Riverton’s game plan was to not let Howe get any clean looks. They also executed very well on their set plays. The Silverwolves caught WX a lot of times when they didn’t rotate the defense over. Nick Gibson was tough around the basket and on the boards. Dayne McDonald and Luke Chandler hit 3 huge three-pointers that were eventually the difference.
3 Takeaways
- Woods Cross has a good team that has quickness and shooting. Tyler Roberts gives them a good inside presence. His outside shooting ability is seldomly used. Woods Cross will compete in their region and make the playoffs.
- Riverton is a scrappy team that has a lot of supporting players that give the Silverwolves great minutes.Parker Applegate is a good shooter. If you give him a good look he is going to bury a three-pointer. If Riverton figures out a way to clean up their inside play they could win all the games they’re suppose to.
- Both teams have the right players to make a good run in region. They also have the ability to surprise teams. With that said Riverton and Woods Cross are similar in the fact that they’re also vulnerable with key players on the bench.
Riverton has three winnable games next. They should go 3-0 if they play like they did last night.
Woods Cross has a tougher schedule going forward but if they can focus on growth and execution these next 3 games could be valuable to their region success.
Good luck to both teams going forward.
