2018 Roughrider Preview
Every year Dickinson Trinity serves as the host of the Roughrider Invite, a tournament featuring eight teams from Region 7. The tournament serves as an early-season look at the region. This year will be the 48th installment of the tournament. Games start tomorrow and a champion will be crowned Saturday evening.
Quarterfinal matchups
Dickinson Trinity (1-0) already proved they are going to be tough this year by topping Shiloh in their season opener. They’ll face a struggling Killdeer team (0-1) still looking to gain confidence and rebuild after losing a talented senior class.
New England is replacing their head coach this year but their biggest challenge is boosting their program participation numbers. Mott-Regent (1-0) has one of the best seniors in the state and region, so they’ll be the favorites in this game.
Bowman County is another team in the region with a new head coach and lost 1,000-point scorer Dylan Scott. Richardton-Taylor is a hard team to judge. They have a big senior class with six players and three juniors, which means they won’t be short on experience. This will be both teams’ first game of the year.
Glen Ullin-Hebron and Heart River face off in an interesting matchup. Glen Ullin Hebron head coach Greg Pruitt moved from Heart River to Glen Ullin-Hebron during the offseason. Which means his first game of the year will be against his old team.
Both schools are adjusting to new head coaches, which means early season growing pains. We will learn a lot about Region 7 from this tournament.
