Upset # 1
Fremont beats Copper Hills (67-55)
Copper Hills had previously been ranked in our top 5 due to their early success against good competition. Fremont figured out a way to hold Stone Hutchings and Tyler Bush under 12 points which was the difference as Trevon Allfrey was still able to 25 points but it wasn’t enough. Fremont was able to outscore Copper Hills 18-6 in the second quarter and they were able to maintain every run thrown at them. Baylor Harrop for Fremont had a monster game with four 3-pointers on his way to scoring a season high 23 points. Fremont hit 13 three-pointers last night.
Upset # 2
Orem beat Richland (WA) (63-50)
On a night were Puka Nacua was name Gatorade Player of the Year it seems as if the Nacua and the rest of the Orem Tigers are starting to get their basketball legs back. The Tigers were undersized but able to take control early and never look back really. Orem has already beating 6A Herriman this year as well. The Tigers are a front runner to win state in 4A this year. Taft Mitchell for Orem is currently averaging 16 points per game.
Big Win # 1
American Fork beats Bountiful (78-72)
AF jumped on the Braves early by scoring 29 points in the 1st quarter and Bountiful could just not dig itself out of that whole. five AF players scored in double digits. Hayden Franson had 17 points and 9 rebounds. Isaac Johnson had 16 points and 14 rebounds. The Braves got 59 points from their big 3 but it wasn’t enough. Huge win going forward for AF.
Big Win # 2
Bingham Beats Davis (74-69) OT
Last night Bingham let us know that they have not gone anywhere. Davis had previously been one of the top teams in 6A that could possibly challenge Pleasant Grove but Bingham let us all know that they can still ball at a high level. The Miners had four players score in double figures but were lead by Sophomore Guard Jordan Toscano who scored 17 points. Tyson Garff did his part as he scored 32 points but only three other players on his team scored and it wasn’t enough as Bingham pulled off the OT win.
