The Saints jumped out to a quick 22-8 lead in the first quarter after back to back three pointers by Davis Guyton. The Saints held onto a 36-34 lead heading into the halftime break.
The Trinity Byrnes Titans out of Darlington came out strong in the 3rd quarter on a 7-0 run ignited by Jordan Jones and Nick Ford. The Titans would stay out in the lead the rest of the way and win on the on road 68-62. The Titans move to (2-1) on the season while the Saints fall to (1-2).
MVP : Amarion Coletrain (2020) – Trinity Byrnes (pictured on front)
Coletrain was the X-Factor all night long for the Titans in the paint. Coletrain a transfer from South Florence HS Coletrain played 2 feet from the basket and came up with big rebounds and putbacks on the glass. Coletrain finished the night with 14 points in the Titans victory.
Best Offensive Performance : Jordan Jones (2020) – Trinity Byrnes
Jones was shifty with the ball all night long. Jones a left-handed point guard and primary ball-handler knocked down some big buckets in the 2nd half to prevail the win for the Titans. Jones finished the evening with 19 points.
Best Defensive Performance : Jordan Jones (2020) – Trinity Byrnes
Jones a pest in the back court tonight for the Titans. Jones has quick hands and gets his hands on a lot of balls for deflections.
Best Underclassmen : Nick Ford (2020) – Trinity Byrnes
Ford 6’3 finished the evening with 13 points in the victory. Ford a streaky shooter is still buying into the Titans way of basketball. Ford has good size and a nice mid-range game. Ford will be a key contributor all season long for the Titans.
Best Senior : Mike Green (2019) – Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach
Green finished the evening with 26 points in the loss for the Saints. Green has a sweet stroke from behind the arc. Green a left-handed guard finished with 4 three pointers and now has scored 1,802 career points. Green is already the All-Time Leading Scorer in Saints history.
Dropping Threes : Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach Hits 10 threes
The Saints will be a team this season to live and die by the three pointer. Mike Green and Davis Guyton both connected on 4 three pointers a piece while Lawton Fulford and Jalen Busby both added one apiece.
Freshman Watch : Tre McLeod (2022) – Trinity Byrnes
McLeod came up with two big three pointers in the win tonight for the Titans. McLeod hit his first three pointer in the 2nd quarter to cut the margin 31-28. McLeod will see more minutes down the road for this young Titans squad.
Transfers : Nick Ford and Amarion Coletrain – Trinity Byrnes
Ford and Coletrain both transferred over this off season from nearby South Florence HS. Current teammate Jordan Jones started off at South Florence HS himself before transferring last season. Jones is a 2 year starter for football program at quarterback.
Soft Hands and Touch: Davis Guyton (2019) – Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach
Guyton has some of the best hands I have seen in a long time. Guyton likes to pick and pop and shoots the ball at a high percentage from behind the 3 point line. Guyton has slimmed down on his frame and finished the night with 14 points while connecting on 4 three pointers.
Direction of the Season : Both teams will meet later this month
These two teams will meet later this month again in a classic before the Christmas holiday. The Saints will play in the Beach Ball Classic while the Titans will play at the District 9 Tourney held at Lee Central HS in Bishopville. Both of those tourneys will be after Christmas.
