BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE | JACK LEWIS | SIDWELL ’19
Jack Lewis was the MVP of this contest for a number of reasons. He was very efficient, committing 0 turnovers, and shooting 7 of 11 from the field, including 2 of 6 from long range on his way to 17 points. Lewis brought energy on the defensive end, where he recorded 3 steals, but also contributed on the glass (2 offensive rebounds).
BEST OBCSURE PERFORMANCE | DEAN MAZLISH | SIDWELL ’19
Despite not knocking down some open looks (1/4 from three), Dean Mazlish ran the team very well. Mazlish handed out 5 dimes while committing just two turnovers. He recorded 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and scored 8 points.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | CHRIS GAMBLE | SIDWELL ’22
Chris Gamble is just a freshman, but he was able to give Coach Singletary some good minutes in this game. Gamble demonstrated poise, getting to the line, where he converted on 8 of 9 attempts. The freshman finished the game with 10 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 turnover.
BEST UNSIGNED SENIOR | JASON GIBSON | SIDWELL ’19
Jason Gibson did enough offensively to help his team get a win, scoring 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting from the field and 3 of 4 from the line. Gibson also impacted the game in a number of other categories, recording 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist, and 1 turnover.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | NICK LEWIS | SIDWELL ’19
Nick Lewis was simply a steady presence on the floor for Sidwell. He did not commit a turnover, and some would say the best defense is a good offense. Lewis also had 2 steals to go along with 3 rebounds (2 defensive) and 2 assists.
BEST PROSPECT | GEORGE PERKINS | SIDWELL ’22
George Perkins showed some positive flashes in this one. You can see that Perkins has good command of his body despite the fact that he’s still growing into it. The lanky 6’8 freshman showed good feel and was efficient, scoring 7 points (3/4 FG, 1/1 FT) to go along with 2 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal.
BEST PASSER | DEAN MAZLISH | SIDWELL ’19
We mentioned earlier that Mazlish led his team in assists. The ball never sticks with him, and showed the ability to consistently deliver accurate, timely passes.
BEST PLAY | GEORGE PERKINS | SIDWELL ’22
This game had a good atmosphere, and Perkins gave the fans some entertainment when he intercepted a pass and slammed it home on the other end. This was definitely one of the more memorable plays from this contest.
BEST INTANGIBLES | PHILLIP JORDAN | ST. ABLANS ’19
Phillip Jordan, who recently committed to Shepherd, stayed calm and did not get too low despite the fact that his team was trailing by a decent margin for most of this game. We had Jordan down for 5 turnovers, but he made all 9 of his free throw attempts and recorded 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
There have been a couple of IAC/MAC match-ups so far early in the season, and there will be many more throughout the year. Right now it’s 1-1 in terms of games we’ve been to, with Episcopal defeating GDS and this win for Sidwell over STA. Both leagues are strong, but it will be interesting to track these results as the season progresses.
