Rich Johnson, a 6’0 2019 point guard, led all scorers with 25 points in the Titans’ win.
MVP: Rich Johnson (6’0, PG, 2019, Lee’s Summit West). One of the Kansas City area’s premier guards, Johnson is a talented guard capable of running a team and scoring from all three levels. He is a strong ball handler, capable of handling pressure and getting all the way to the basket off the bounce. He is an elite competitor who gets after it at both ends of the floor. He scored 25 points on Saturday to help lead the Titans to a win over Schlagle.
Offensive Performer: Jaylin Richardson (6’2, G/F, 2020, Schlagle). Richardson didn’t have his best game scoring the ball as he finished with 13 points, but he drew a crowd throughout the contest on Saturday as the Titans made him the focus of their defensive efforts. He is a big, strong guard who can do a little bit of everything well. Also a football standout, Richardson handles it well, gets to the basket off the bounce and can shoot from the 3-point arc.
Best rebounder: Brian Parker Jr. (6’3, F, 2019, Schlagle). One of Kansas’ better athletes, Parker was all over the glass at both ends of the floor. He is a talented garbage pail type performer who does the little things at an elite level.
Best Defender: Brian Parker Jr. (6’3, F, 2019, Schlagle). Parker is an elite defender, capable of moving his feet on the perimeter and locking up a guard, or defending in the paint and blocking shots. At the offensive end of the floor, he is a force along the baseline, able to finish put backs, dump down passes and clean up around the basket.
Most Improved: Colby Baggatt (6’3, G, 2021, Lee’s Summit West). Baggett got some varsity run last season for the Titans off the bench and has taken his game to another level this season. He is a slender guard with a long, rangy frame. Baggett is quick off the dribble, can get to the basket and twist and turn his body to finish otherwise tough chances around the rim. He has good court vision and plays well off Johnson. He scored nine points in the Titans win over Schlagle on Saturday, but those numbers bely the impact he had on the game.
Most Versatile: Josh Butler (6’5, F, 2020, LSW). Butler is an inside-out forward capable of mixing it up in the paint or stepping out and knocking down 3-pointers.
Best off the Bench: Mike McKnight (6’1, G, 2021, LSW). McKnight is a player. He came off the bench to make a big impact for the Titans, scoring buckets and making plays for his team. He is a terrific passer with good court vision, can knock down outside shots and gets to the basket where he is a crafty finisher. He went for 15 points off the bench on Saturday, including 13 in the second half.
Best Youngster: Tyrese Cannon (6’2, G, 2022, Schlagle). Cannon got a lot of varsity run as a freshman on Saturday and showed terrific size, skill and a lot of promise. He knocked down a 3, finished a couple plays around the basket and showed the ability to handle the ball a little and create some offense off the bounce.
