MVP | RYAN CORNISH | RM ’21
Ryan Cornish shot the ball exceptionally well in this game. He led RM with 22 points, but also did the little things in order to help the Rockets secure this important win. Cornish hauled in 7 boards and dished out 3 assists, but also took a charge and was a consistent communicator while on the floor.
BEST POINT GUARD | JUAN BELL | PAINT BRANCH ’21
Juan Bell probably would have won MVP if Paint Branch would have been able to win this game. After going down in this game early, Bell was a key catalyst in helping his team recover and lead for a good majority of this game. The poised sophomore, who defended very well, scored 15 points and hit a half court shot to beat the halftime buzzer.
BEST BIG MAN | MILES GALLY | RM ’19
The main takeaway from Miles Gally‘s performance last night is that he is a knock down shooter and a terrific passer at 6’9. On numerous occasions, Gally did an outstanding job securing a rebound, keeping the ball high, and throwing a crisp, accurate outlet pass that initiated the break. The unsigned senior chipped in with 15 points.
BEST SCORER | RICHARD DUDLEY | PAINT BRANCH ’19
Richard Dudley scored 15 points, some of which came in impressive fashion. Dudley can create separation off the dribble, has really good body control, and is an adept paint getter who can finish consistently in traffic.
BEST DEFENDER | KORDELL LEWIS | RM ’21
Kordell Lewis is an absolute pit bull on defense. Lewis reacts quickly and can guard both on and off the ball. The sophomore, who contributed 15 points to the win, also showcased a smooth pull up jump shot and a tight handle.
BEST RIM PROTECTOR | JORDAN ALPHONSO | PAINT BRANCH ’20
Jordan Alphonso is an explosive leaper with long arms and excellent timing. The 6-foot-5 wing had at least three memorable blocks which occurred right at the rim.
BEST GLUE GUY | DEVIN LIYANAMANA | RM ’20
If Devin Liyanamana doesn’t play as well as he did in this contest, RM probably doesn’t win. Liyanamana, a knock down shooter with a high basketball IQ, scored 12 points.
MOST VERSATILE | DJORDJE ORCEV | RM ’19
Djordje Orcev did a bit of everything on Tuesday. Orcev rebounded, blocked shots, handled the ball, got in the paint, finished around the basket, and kicked out to his shooters. The unsigned senior had 11 points, but sprinkled in a handful of peripheral stats as well.
BEST SERIES
Ryan Cornish was on an absolute tear to start this game, going 3 of 3 from deep, and showcasing in the gym range. Cornish scored the first 11 points for his team, and 19 in the first half.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
These two teams are considered among the best in Montgomery County, and this contest truly could have gone either way. It will be interesting to see where these two sturdy programs stack up in their respective regions as the season progresses.
