West Coast Elite Camp: Notable Players Part 1
This past weekend was when the highly anticipated West Coast Elite Camp made its way to Colorado. They had a huge turnout with plenty of top players to talk about but there were certain players that caught our eye. In this artlice we break down part one of our notable players on the weekend.
Ty Robinson- Eaglecrest – 2021
This weekend, Robinson boosted his case for best player in the 2021 class. He did not take plays off, defended the best player on every team and made it a point to let other players know that they could not guard him. He showed no signs off rust coming off of a full season of football and looks ready to get in the gym to put in the work. Huge year coming from him.
Kaleb Chaney- Overland- 2020
The play of Kaleb surprised me this weekend as he has always been known as a knock down shooter from anywhere on the floor, but he showed a different side that many have been looking forward to seeing. He really stood out as a floor general. He ran the point effectively as he got players the ball on time and in great positions to make a move and score. Once he can get the balance of scoring and passing down he will become an even more dangerous part of the Overland bench.
Jalen Weaver- Smoky Hill- 2021
With all things considered, Jalen could potentially be the best overall player in this class. His offensive game looked more polished, his defense was on full display and his play made others around him look better. Jalen has all of the intangibles that coaches look for in a young kid and he still has plenty of room to get it all done. This season at Smoky Hill will be a learning year for him as Kenny Foster looks to complete his quest for a state title but I expect Robinson to make an impact as a freshman and be a critical part of the team.
Peyton Westfall- Pine Creek- 2020
Peyton is one of my top picks for a breakout year this season. Last season he was able to get his feet wet and understand what the pressure of varsity felt like. He ended the season with back to back 20+ point games against Palmer and Fairview and stepped up numerous times throughout the season. This season he will have to pick up that play and take it to a next level and prove that he can do it for a whole season. He is a great competitor that doesn’t stand down to the competition, plays beyond his size and can really knock it down. A full year of showing it will have him as one of the top players in the state.
Caulen Swain- Denver East- 2019
East has some sleepers on their roster this season that really can play. This is a team that is doubted heading into the season but they will surprise many and one of those surprises is Caulen. Caulen proved that he is a player that should be getting more recognition miving forward and looks as if he was just shadowed by great players. Now with more light to shine his way he will have his opportunity, He is a long, athletic wing that can hurt a team in a variety of ways. He is a play maker on the offensive end and has active hands on defense. At the camp, he finished at the rim easily over defenders and will be a tough cover come start of the season. Watch out for East.
