VHSL Class 6 Region C Preview and Predictions
As we begin our final stretch into the much anticipated start to another high school season, it’s time to take a closer look at what to expect. In this series, we will be previewing various regions and classifications within the VHSL in an effort to highlight who we think are the top teams and prospects. Below we preview and predict Class 6, Region C.
TOP TEAMS
WT Woodson
South County
Lake Braddock
Hayfield
Annandale
West Potomac
THE SKINNY
Class 6 Region C is very competitive from top to bottom, and this was a difficult one to predict. What we do know is that despite losing their best player to graduation, defending state champs South County will be very good once again. Jake Latta and Noah Bullock are leaders for the Stallions, who hope to maintain the momentum they created a season ago. WT Woodson, who has a good supporting cast around twin towers Ben Jensen and Cody Mains, will likely pose a strong challenge. Lake Braddock, led by speedy floor general Quentin James, should be tough to beat on a given night. Hayfield, who has one of the area’s most talented guards in Mike Joiner and one of the region’s best bigs in Daniel Peterson, should be good this year. Junior Lotongo will propel Annandale, who look like they have a good team heading into the season. Daryl Mackey Jr. is the most exciting player to watch in this region, and could lead West Potomac on a run at the right time.
PREDICTIONS
Regional Champions: South County
Regional Player of the Year: Jake Latta | 6’7 forward | South County ’19
Ultimately South County was our pick over WT Woodson because we believe the Stallions have better guard play overall, but Jake Latta‘s ability to matchup with the Cavaliers bigs will also play a big part. Latta is a hard worker who can impact the game on the defensive end with his rebounding, and on the offensive end with his efficiency around the basket.
