As we begin our final stretch into the much anticipated start to another high school season, it’s time to take a closer look at what to expect. In this series, we will be previewing various regions and classifications within the VHSL in an effort to highlight who we think are the top teams and prospects. Below we preview and predict Class 6, Region B.
In football this conference is king, but in basketball it lacks the traditional powerhouses in the center of the state. The region ranges from the Fredericksburg area through the Richmond area all the way out to outlier Franklin County, and if there’s one thing you can say about this conference is that it’s wide open. Coming off their first state tournament in a long time, James River out of Richmond is the favorite this year. They return All State guard Loginn Norton who could be one of the top scorers in the Richmond area. Cross county rivals Manchester has also done a nice job of rebuilding their program, and led by senior guard Collin Harding they should be ready to challenge for the region title. Colonial Forge out of Fredericksburg has gone through some rebuilding years but boast a young and talented roster, and you can never count out Franklin County who has athletes in that part of the state as well.
Region Champion: James River
Region POY: Loginn Norton | 6’0” PG | James River 2019
He’s the best player on the reigning regional champs, and now he’s committed to D2 Francis Marion University in South Carolina. The long and short of it is that Norton is a heady and skilled combo guard that can flat out fill it up. He’s one of the best shooters in the state, and he has a good handle and feel so he can play both guard positions and be the best player on the floor.
