Troy Tournament: Consolation Round Standouts
Prep Hoops Missouri was in attendance at the People’s Bank and Trust Tournament in Troy, Mo. on Wednesday. Here is a look at the top standouts from the consolation bracket games.
Dezi Jones 5’9″ Hannibal (’19) – The little combo I nicknamed “Hannibal Buckets” scored a game-high 36 points in a victory over Holt. He got things started out with a couple of transition baskets, including a couple off his own defensive prowess. He got things really cooking in the second half when he started to knock down 3-point shots. He shot the ball coming off screens or by creating his own shot off the dribble. He excels despite seeing aggressive double and triple teams.
Jim King 6’6″ Troy (’19) – The versatile combo forward scored a team-high 20 points against Hickman. He has a nice set of skills in the low post where he has a nice jump hook and he can also score with both hands. He is a bouncy athlete who will throw down a dunk in traffic. He has also improved his 3-point shooting, which gives him another offensive weapon.
Jarvis Jennings 6’2″ Hickman (’19) – A physical wing player who is versatile enough to play anywhere on the floor and excel. He played point guard on offense and some center on defense where he guarded Troy’s standout 6’6″ forward Jim King. He is physically strong, which enabled him to power his way to the basket for buckets. He also had good moves and footwork off the dribble. He can also go inside and score in the post.
Jaylon Ashford 6’2″ Wentzville Holt (’20) – It was my first time seeing Jaylon play and I was very impressed with this very rangy and skilled wing player. He’s a talented lefty who displayed the ability to get buckets in a variety of ways. He scored well in the post and on the offensive boards in the first half. In the second half, he showcased his ball handling and ability to get buckets off the dribble.
