The Rotation: Dunseith
Dunseith went 19-5 last season, losing to Langdon in the Region 4 semifinals before ending the year with a win over Minnewaukan. With a solid core of returners, Dunseith has a chance to replicate that success or be even better this winter.
Must be Replaced: Taylor Peltier, Antione Rivera, Koby Azure, Brandon Lambert
Peltier was a big key in the Dragons’ season as his ability to set the tone and create for teammates as well as consistently produce points was a big plus for a team that averaged 76 points per game. Koby Azure and Antione Rivera gave the team solid minutes inside and with their graduation, the team loses a big bulk of its frontcourt production.
Key Returners: Hunter Gladue, Lawrence Peltier, Michael Two Hearts
The Dragons may lose one of their top offensive players in Taylor Peltier but they are still in good hands with senior guards Hunter Gladue and Lawrence Peltier. Gladue is one of the top scorers in the area while Peltier is a steady hand and solid scorer and playmaker. Those two form one of the best backcourts in Class B. Michael Two Hearts saw regular minutes last year and produced consistently on the wing.
Stepping Into New Roles: Sage Williams, Treagan Azure
It’ll be on the two guards, Gladue and Peltier, to step their games up even further to make up for the graduation of Taylor Peltier but guys who figure to see big role increases are junior forwards Sage Williams and Treagan Azure. Azure has a little more size but also has guard skills which could make him something of a mismatch for opponents while Williams is a big, strong and athletic kid who could play a big part in the Dragons’ interior efforts.
Season Outlook
Dunseith won 19 games last year and have the talent be better in 2018-19. Gladue and Peltier form one of the best backcourts in Class B and while they don’t have a great deal of collective size, the Dragons have a solid stable of athletic kids that can get out and play fast. Expect another strong year for the Dragons.
