The Basketball Interview: Nick Hoyt
Few returning players in South Dakota High School basketball can match the returning honors of Nick Hoyt of Harrisburg from the 17-18 season. What makes the game special to Hoyt? Nick explained it to Prep Hoops today.
Prep Hoops: What are your first memories of basketball becoming something you love and a big part of your life?
Nick Hoyt: My love for basketball started at a very young age when my parents would take me to the Y to shoot around. Also, I got to watch the old NBA D-League team Dakota Wizards often when I was in grade school.
Who is your favorite college or professional player to watch? And to learn from (if different)?
Nick Hoyt: My favorite player to watch growing up was Kobe Bryant. Right now I’d have to say it is Klay Thompson because of the way he moves without the ball and can get his shot off without dribbling even though I hate the Warriors.
If you could play on any court in the world, what court would you pick and why?
Nick Hoyt: I would really want to play at Staples Center because I’m a Lakers fan.
When you are off the floor, what is your favorite hobby to take part in?
Nick Hoyt: When I’m off the floor I enjoy spending time with my family and just chilling with my friends.
The best sports movie of all time is? And best non sports move?
Nick Hoyt: The best sports movie of all time is definitely Space Jam and the best non sports movie of all time is Step Brothers.
At this point in your basketball life what has been the most memorable moment, or moments?
Nick Hoyt: The most memorable basketball moments so far through my basketball career have been at the State Tournament. Now that we’ve been there the last two years our goal is to get back there and win all three games.
How do players in your community support and relate to the young and up and coming players? In other words, what do you guys do to support the youth hoopers in your area?
Nick Hoyt: To support the young hoopers in our community we offer camps for elementary and middle school players led by the players on our team. This gives us the opportunity to build relationships with and help influence the younger generation that we hope can impact Harrisburg Basketball in the future.
