Team Preview: Imlay City Spartans
IMLAY CITY SPARTANS
The Spartans play in the Blue Water Area Conference. Imlay City finished 8-13 last season – 5th in the league and lost in the first round of districts. The Spartans biggest strengths will be their experience. They return 6 players who saw significant minutes last season. Coach Don Gauthier says, “Our conference will be very tough this year. Many of the teams return their top players. There’s always been a lot of parity in our league, it’s a battle of every game. But our kids compete everyday.”
KEY PLAYERS:
LOGAN WILSON (6’1 PG-Sr.) –
Led the team in minutes last year, plays hard on both ends of the court, sees the floor well, can shoot from deep. A real competitor willing to do anything it takes to lead his team to a win.
MITCH ALLEN (6’2 wing-Sr.) –
Can shoot the ball, lives in the gym, focused this off-season on getting quicker and stronger. His commitment this off-season was as good as any player the Spartans ever had in their program.
LONNIE WOLFORD (6’3 wing-Sr.) –
Long and athletic, can shoot and finish at the rim. Brings a lot of leadership to the Spartans.
HUNTER MEDRANO (6’6 post-Jr.) –
Long and active. Runs the floor very well, can defend inside and outside. Improved his strength this off-season. Excellent work ethic and very coachable. He has a very bright future. As a sophomore he led the Spartans in charges taken and blocked shots.
Coach Gauthier said, “I love the kids, building relationships. We always have alumni stopping in at practice, or even coaching with us now. It’s humbling to see the impact basketball and coaching has long-term. My favorite part is the people, working with young men and our coaching staff. The big picture for us as coaches is we hope our young men learn through basketball things will help them become successful later in life.
