Team Preview – Covenant Christian
GRAND RAPIDS COVENANT CHRISTIAN
Covenant Christian is an independent school since the River Valley Conference disbanded four years ago. They play a lot of top tier teams in the area preparing them for the state playoffs. The Chargers made it to the Class C state semi-final losing to eventual State Champion Detroit Edison last season. They lost 7 seniors from last year’s crop and look to reload this year with another strong group of seniors who came off the bench last year and provided a boast. They grow them big and long at Covenant Christian and manage to get better as the year goes on peaking at the right moment.
The Chargers pride themselves with playing solid team defense and with a culture of winning embedded in the program, this year should be no different. Look for them to make another run in the state playoffs again.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Blake Kamps (6-5) Senior – He brings length, experience and stability to the Chargers. Provided valuable minutes to last year’s team.
Colten Brower (6-2), Senior G – A nice sized guard who plays calm-and-collected. He will control the tempo and be one of the team leaders this year.
Eric Doezema (6-5) Senior SF – Doezma is not afraid to shoot the ball and provides a nice inside-outside threat for the Chargers.
Mike Morris (6-4), Senior F/C – Morris plays tough and is a rugged post player. Boxes out nicely and plays tough defense.
Brett Kalsbeek (6-4) Senior F – He bring his high-energy motor to the court every night.
