SSVEC Classic: Top Performers
This thanksgiving break provided us with a lot of high school basketball to watch! One of the most exciting tournaments was the SSVEC Classic. Teams were competing hard and here are the top performers from the tournament:
JT Elder (Cienega 2021):
JT Elder is continuing his tear on the AZ basketball scene. He had a great summer with Powerhouse Dynasty 15U and at the Top 250 Showcase. Now, he is looking to make a name for himself during the high school season. He’s a double double machine, recording 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists in one game. While recording 30 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists in another and ended the day with a 20 point, 8 rebounds, 4 assist game. Such a talented and versatile player.
D’Marco Dunn (Marana 2021):
D’Marco is a scoring machine. It is very hard to keep this kid from getting to the basket. He had a 30 point game and was on track for a 36 point game before being pulled due to injury. Seemed like a very minor injury but their coach decided to sit him since they were blowing Douglas HS out b 20+ points.
Kino Bellinger (Buena 2019):
Kino did his normal stuff, running that high powered Buena offense and scoring a lot of points. I did not get an official stat on him but he was scoring the ball at an extremely high rate. He will look to become Buena’s all-time leading scorer this season.
Trent Bourquet (Marana 2019):
Do not leave this kid open! Trent started the game off knocking down three 3’s in a row. He finished the game 5-7 from deep. He has a very nice shot and is very smart about when to take his shot. He has a leadership quality that is intangible and he led that Marana team to a blow out win against Douglas when D’Marco Dunn went out of the game.
