Scouting Report: Jackson Ruai
Jackson Ruai (Amphi 2019) is a super athletic wing, who may have some of the most impressive dunks in the state. Ruai may also be the best defender in the state. I would go on record and say that he is the best perimeter defender in the state.
First Impression:
I saw Jackson play with Powerhouse Tucson and he was immediately impressive. He puts on a show every game with his dunking ability. He dunks the ball with great force and has amazing leaping ability (35 inch standing vertical/42 one step vertical).
Strength:
As mentioned before, Jackson is one of the best defenders in the entire state. He has really long arms, a willingness to play defense, tenacity, and lateral quickness. He is relentless in his pursuit for the ball and this often leads to a lot of steals/blocks that lead to fast break dunks. Due to Jackson’s incredible length, he is also a very good finisher around the rim and is a better passer than he gets credit for. He has a great feel for the game and often makes the right plays.
Weakness:
Shooting. Jackson has a unorthodox shooting form that releases from the opposite side of his head. I would imagine that this is the reason for his three point shot being inconsistent. He needs to be able to hit the open three or else defenders will sag off of him and let him shoot all day.
Projection:
I think Jackson’s defensive efforts and potential make him a mid major college prospect. I think he will find a very quick role on whatever college team he ends up on simply due to the fact that he is a lock-down defender. If Jackson could make his shooting more consistent, he could be a high-mid major prospect. However, I think the best place for him is at a mid major program.
