Conference Commentary
Top Ten
Teams that are in the Top 10 of the State in 2A
Andrean – For Andrean, they are coming off of a good season last year where they came up short in Regionals but impressed with a fairly young team. They did graduate James Hudson and Curtis Jones but they bring back their key sophomores in Ben Jones, Kyle Ross, and Dorian Harris which should be enough in this Regional to really compete and their schedule will test them early and often.
Marquette Catholic – Marquette might have had one of the weirdest years in recent memory for a team that should have been really good. They have one more year to set it all in motion but will do it without Chandler Goodwin or Buddy Jaffee. Colin Kenney and Joe Andershock are set to have big years but this entire needs to come through.
Westview – This Westview team is going to be the class of 2A this year and could conceivably begin the year ranked first in the class. With Elijah Hales and Charlie Yoder back, those team are so difficult to gameplan for and they have enough structure and offense to drive teams insane. This could be a big year for their program.
Top Ten Potential
Teams that could be in the Top 10 of the State in 2A
Churubusco – Churubusco is a team that could be the class of their Sectional and Regional in the years moving forward as they have a pair of talented freshman that should be able to guide this team for a few years in Jackson Paul and Zane Burke. They only lose two seniors from this team as well and that could be able to make it a fight for this Regional.
LaVille – LaVille is coming off a season where their only loss came in the opening Sectional game against Westview which is just a horrible draw. But, they will get to do it all over again as they bring back most of their offense and only Jacob Good has graduated that was a top 5 scorer for them.
Compete With Most
Teams that could be well above .500 this Season
Winamac – This could be a Winamac team that we look back on and should have ranked higher. They return everyone including the Larkin brothers who averaged 30 points per game combined. They will have a hard time with Marquette Catholic and on January 26th we will get a possible preview of that Sectional Championship. The winner could have an upper hand for the Regional.
Rebuilding
Teams that were good last year but could struggle this Season
Gary Roosevelt – Roosevelt had been loading up on kids for a few years now and were able to find some success but never really got over the hump. Now, they are going to have to start all the way over with Latrell Williams, DaKei Hines, and others now having moved on. Will be interesting to see if their roster throws us a surprise or two early in the season.
