Region 5-A Players to Watch
Region 5-A consists of just 5 schools in the middle of the Palmetto State off Interstate 95. Checkout in this article what players to look for this season in this small school division.
Braxton Wedgeworth (2019) – Bethune-Bowman (Pictured on front)
Wedgeworth is a multi-sport athlete for the Mohawks. Wedgeworth is the quarterback on the football team. Wedgeworth has seen extensive time on the varsity since freshman season. Wedgeworth does it all and can play-inside out on the floor for the Mohawks. Wedgeworth plays bigger than his size and has his Mohawks football team (7-3) and headed into the 2nd round of the SCHSL Playoffs.
Wedgeworth has been selected to play in the South Carolina North-South Football Game on December 15 at Coastal Carolina University.
Sean Swaringer (2019) – Scott’s Branch (Summerton)
Swaringer played last season at CE Murray before transferring over to the Eagles this fall. Swaringer a left-handed guard just finished up the football season with over 1,100 yards rushing the ball. Swaringer really likes to attack the rack.
Jacquez Shuler (2020) – Bethune-Bowman HS
Shuler could be a major factor for the Mohawks after transferring over from nearby Denmark-Olar HS. Shuler now 6’7 didn’t play last season for the Vikings and ran with the Carolina Wolves 16U this past Grassroots Circuit. Shuler is still a RAW talent with heavy feet but has the tools down the road to be a player.
Byron Felder (2020) – Bethune-Bowman HS
Felder 6’4 transferred in from Orangeburg-Wilkinson HS to the Mohawks this season. Felder should contribute right away to the Mohawks after football season ends. Felder and Shuler both could be Newcomers of the Year to Region 5-A when it’s all said and done.
Sheldon Bradley (2021) – C.E. Murray HS (Greeleyville)
Bradley 6’5 played a handful of games for the War Eagles last season after leaving the team for academics. Bradley is looking to have a breakout season for the War Eagles. Bradley has good length and runs the floor very well. Bradley just needs minutes and playing times after taking the Grassroots season off and only playing in a few games last season. Bradley looks to try and block everything around the basket.
Notorius Grant (2021) – C.E. Murray HS (Greeleyville)
Grant will be the leader of this new look War Eagles team. Grant is a strong guard who can get the ball into the lane when he wants to while on the floor. Grant really likes to have the ball in his hands as much as possible and at times just needs to keep things simple.
Former teammate Twanye Butler transferred out to AC Flora HS for his senior season.
