Recruiting Update: Jalen Brown (2019 Jefferson HS)
With Jefferson set on a championship run in 2017-18, a number of its players will get a chance to shine on the big stage. Jalen Brown is ready for the opportunity. The athletic 6-foot-3 guard is aiming to have a banner season and a number of college programs will be closely monitoring his progress through March.
Brown picked up a lot of fans over the summer playing AAU ball and the momentum carried over into fall league action. Metro State was close to offering a scholarshp and they still are as they’ve been talking to Brown about going on a visit. Lewis & Clark recently made a home visit, and Brown is hearing from Navy, Central Washington, Western Washington, and Whitman and some national JCs such as Casper College in Wyoming, Cloud County CC in Kansas, and Eastern Arizona.
Navy is of particular interest since they are Division I and Brown has enjoyed getting to know them. “I’ve been talking to the assistant coach David Harris and he’s a funny guy,” Brown said. “I enjoy talking to Navy a lot when they call or text me. He’s sent me pictures of the campus on the water and it looks really cool. (The military service component) is something I definitely think about but then I think about the benefits of it as well.”
As noted, many of the schools are taking a wait and see approach with Brown before offering a scholarship – and he understands the process. “I felt like I had a great summer and fall as far as showing everything I can do, but the schools that have been following me have only been following me for a couple months,” Brown said. “This season should be a good one for me and also the team.”
Brown currently ranks as the #10 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
