Recruiting Update: Brock Henry (2019 Southridge HS)
While summer ball was a lot of fun for Brock Henry, the fall might have been even better. The athletic 6-foot-4 combo guard from Southridge High School got an opportunity to play in a number of showcases, most notably the Prime Time Top 40 in late September. Henry more than matched up well against a lot of familiar faces and his college recruitment has picked up as a result.
“It was a great experience playing against some of the top competition in the state,” Henry said. “The exposure was the biggest opportunity but you also got to size yourself up against the cream of the crop – all the best guys in one gym playing against each other. I think I did well – I may not have been the best scorer there but my work ethic and the little things that I do really put me up with those guys.”
Henry was on the same team as Jaden-Nielsen Skinner and Ty Rankin and had some memorable matchups against some of the other guards in Oregon. “It was fun going up against those guys as I’ve been playing them since like elementary school. So it was like coming full circle battling against those guys again. Especially since the way things shake up, during basketball season you don’t always get to play them so it was fun to play against the best guys in the state.
College programs were at the showcase and noticed Henry’s blend of athleticism and skills as a wing. Since then, Central Washington and Concordia have been in touch as well as many of the Division III and NAIA programs in the PDX Metro area. “It’s definitely picking up,” Henry said of his recruitment. “Nothing too serious but they are saying that they like the way that I play and that they are going to keep in touch. I’m keeping my options open especially at this point in the process and see what comes.”
Henry knows that a good senior year should produce some fruit – and he’s hopeful for a lot both from a team perspective and individually. “I’m really excited – I know we lost some of our big pieces from last year but we’re still a great team,” Henry said. “We have a lot of returning guys and we have some new guys too. I think we’re going to surprise a lot of people and have a real shot at repeating at Metro (League). That’s the goal and it’s going to be a fun process.”
“(As for me) I’m shooting for the moon – I want to be Metro League Player of the Year,” Henry said. “I think that would be awesome and that’s a good goal for me – it’s obtainable. So I’ve been trying to put in the work and reach my goal and get there.”
An outstanding student with good grades (3.2 GPA) and sizzling test scores (1370 SAT, 27 ACT), Henry noted that he would like to major in Biology in college with the possibility of specializing in Marine Biology later on. He currently ranks as the #14 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
