Recruiting Update: Brian Warinner (2019 Bend HS)
The start of the spring signing period and there are three members from the Class of 2019 who have already made their college plans known. Will Brian Warinner be the fourth? The steady 6-foot-7, 185-pound forward from Bend has certainly been busy with his college recruitment, visiting college campuses all over the country, and with a couple of scholarship offers under his belt, the question is rather reasonable.
After playing summer ball with Hoop Salem, Warinner dove into his recruitment. North, South, East and West, he visited college campuses all over the United States. In the Northeast, it was MIT. In the Southeast, it was Emory. West Coast? Redlands (SoCal) and Academy of Art (NorCal) fit the bill. The North you say? Lewis-Clark State in Idaho. And don’t forget close to home as George Fox received a visit.
It was quite a whirlwind for Warinner but in the process, he picked up two scholarship offers – his first – from NCAA Division II member Academy of Art and NAIA member Lewis-Clark State. He enjoyed his trips to both. “With the Academy of Art – San Francisco is incredible and I really liked their guys and their coaching staff,” Warinner said. “L-C state was the same way. I didn’t get to hang out with their guys as much but I really liked the coaching staff.
So the question remains – with signing day on Wednesday, is Warinner ready to commit? Along with the scholarshp offers he’s applied for early admission to MIT and Emory but the answer right now is simple. “I think any school that has offered would like me to commit and sign early but I’m going to wait and see what my options are after the season,” Warinner said. “But it’s exciting to have options.”
Warinner’s focus is now on the 2018-19 season as Bend moves up to 6A and will compete in the Mountain Valley Conference. “I’m really looking to our season this year,” Warinner said. “We have a lot of seniors and we’re all guys that have played together a long time, so it should be really fun.”
Warinner currently ranks as the #5 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019.
