Recruiting Report: Xavier Joyner Jr. (2019)
Xavier Joyner Jr. shot the ball well in PVI’s scrimmage at home on Wednesday night vs. Flint Hill, knocking down a handful of spot up threes and proving that he’s a legitimate threat from beyond the arc. Joyner knows that he’ll have to step up this year in order for his team to be successful.
“Well the seniors left last year, so I have to step up into a bigger role. I’m gonna be a senior this year, so I gotta be a leader on and off the court.”
Over the summer, Joyner focused on improving his IQ, ball-handling, adding strength, and improving his defense. All of these continue to be areas of focus for him moving forward. We asked him to evaluate his team’s performance following the scrimmage.
“I’d say a 7 or 8 out of 10. We still can get better on the defensive end, but I think tonight was great. We’ve been waiting to get out here.”
A couple of division one programs, such as Delaware State and Merrimack, have shown interest in Joyner.
“They know I can shoot, they know I can make others better. I just have to get stronger and work on my defense,” Joyner said of the feedback he receives from college coaches.
He says he will play out the season and see what happens before making his college choice. Last quarter, Joyner finished with a 3.7 GPA, which is an example of how he leads off the court. What are his goals?
“Of course to win WCAC, states, and get a d1 scholarship.”
Xavier Joyner Jr. is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-100 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Virginia’s 2019 class, click here.
