Recruiting Report: Thai’re Vance (2019)
Thai’re Vance, a class of 2019 wing at DeMatha, is a nice under-the-radar prospect in the local senior class who had a strong preseason and could contribute this year. Vance adds value to this team on the defensive side of the ball.
“I like to play tough. I like to defend,” he said of his overall game. “I like to drive. I like to take open shots when I have them.”
Vance is still just 17, and doesn’t turn 18 until May 27. He’s a good student who has a 3.2 GPA. Right now, schools like Concordia, and Hartford are showing him some interest, but he’s keeping his options open.
“My long-term goals are to go to school for free, and try to start in college,” said Vance.
Vance played with Team Takeover Orange for the first time last summer. He said he had a good experience, worked hard, and improved on his skills. We’ve seen evidence of the work he put in over the summer in two of DeMatha’s preseason scrimmages. An underrated shooter, Vance is proving to be a threat to knock down open jumpers.
“I’ve been able to make more shots lately,” he said. “It’s something I worked on over the summer.”
What could his role be like this season?
“Basically whoever the coach wants me to guard, I’ll be able to guard him full court. Be able to pluck the ball. Get a wide open layup.”
