Recruiting Report: Chris Harris (JUCO)
John A Logan College sophomore shooting guard Chris Harris has a chance to be one of the breakout players in Region 24 during this upcoming JUCO season. Illinois prep fans might remember Harris from his days at Lake Forest Academy and with the Illinois Wolves.
In those days he was known mostly for his freakish athleticism. After a year at Missouri S&T, Harris is at Logan this year to elevate his stock to play at the highest level he can for the following two seasons. Looked much better as a shooter than we remembered in high school when we saw him during the fall. Great height off the floor and more of a consistent release. Balanced and repeatable mechanics. Mid-major and low-majors need to monitor him this season.
He chatted with us about the growth in his jumper.
“In high school I was pretty much one dimensional as a slasher. As I have gotten older and been around players like David (Sloan) I have seen how you need to add more to your game so I have been working on my shot and handles.”
Last year he played at Missouri S&T as a freshman.
“It was pretty good for me personally. As a team it don’t go as well. We didn’t win very many games. We were on a pretty big losing streak. At the end we started to pull it together, but it was too late. Individually I thought I made strides as a player.”
Why did he decide to make the move to play a year at the junior college level?
“I feel like I wanted to take another route that will propel me getting better and my skill development. John A Logan has great skill development. Jonah Jackson played with me on the Wolves and told me it is a good situation. I talked to talked to coach Kyle (Smithpeters), talked to my brother, talked to my family and decided it was the right move to make.”
He discussed what he sees his role being on the team this season.
“A little bit of everything. David is going to handle the ball. When he is out I will have the ball in my hands. Lock down the best player. That has been my job. Score and distribute.”
A couple schools have been in to chat with him.
“I have talked to Nebraska-Omaha and UMKC. I will play the season out.”
Landed his first offer from Portland State on Wednesday night.
