Recruiting Report: Bendji Pierre (2020)
Bendji Pierre, an athletic 6-foot-7 small forward from Irvington, New Jersey, has a legitimate chance to be one of the better long term prospects in the local 2020 class. At his size, Pierre did a bit of everything during his team’s scrimmage at Paul VI. He scored the ball, defended, and was very vocal. We asked him to evaluate the overall squad performance.
“I feel like we played very well,” he stated. “It was our first game. We just gotta play as a team and we’re going to be really good.”
When you meet Pierre or watch him play for the first time, it doesn’t take long to realize that he is confident in his abilities. He is a skilled and versatile wing who can handle and create space for his shot. Pierre worked hard to improve his athleticism and ability to get over the rim, but wants to be effective on both sides of the ball.
“Working on my ball handling and defense mostly,” Said Pierre, who has a 3.2 GPA. “I want to be a two-way player. I don’t want to be known as an offense only guy. I want to be able to play defense too.”
Coppin State and UMass are the two schools Pierre currently holds reported offers from, but he could see a significant uptick in recruitment very soon. He hopes to bring toughness and competitiveness to the next level.
“My short term goals are to go undefeated this season; win a lot of games. Long term goals are to play high major d1 basketball, play in the NBA and be the greatest player ever.”
Bendji Pierre is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-30 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2020 class, click here.
