Recruiting Report: AJ Casey (2022)
Simeon 2022 center AJ Casey has a lot of hype heading into his first high school season. The 6’8” center has absolutely every single tool you could ask for in a young post prospect. Legit size before he plays a game of high school hoops. Broad shoulders to add strength along with long arms. Plus athleticism and mobility that plays well on both ends of the floor. He can handle the ball especially from the mid-post area in. Explosive around the rim with thunderous slams. Works well in the pick and roll. Crashes the glass for put backs. Potential as a rim protector. Sky is the limit for this prospect!
He recently participated in the USA Basketball minicamp in Colorado Springs which had not only the best players in his class, but across all classes.
“The USA experience was really good. Playing against the top players in the nation especially when we played the older guys in the class of 2020. It was pretty difficult because they were strong and big with IQ. I learned how to play off the ball better and my dribbling a lot too. They worked with me on my dribbling a lot as well as playing off the ball.”
How is it going preparing for the season with Simeon?
“Simeon open gyms have been good. We are in conditioning now. It has been going better and better every day. “It is getting me better every day. Getting me a lot stronger in the weight room. Getting ready to go against the varsity guys.”
He has picked up some things already playing with older guys.
“You can’t use all your moves like you want too. You have to switch it up. Learn some new moves because those guys are real experienced.”
A couple of colleges have shown early interest.
“I have interest from Wake Forest. Wisconsin has come in to open gym.”
What does he like about the Badgers?
“Just the program. When I started watching basketball they were really good.”
When it comes to Wake Forest one of the best played there.
“Tim Duncan. One of my favorite players of all time. His footwork was amazing. I will definitely consider Wake Forest.”
