Recruiting Notebook: Sneaky Commits, Two At The Top
The high school season began last night and the commitment train is slowing down but not completely there. With only a handful of guys even left on the board at the top, there is some maneuvering still to be down. That and more in this week’s recruiting roundup.
National Signing Day Brings Commits
This past week was National Signing Day, the early version and with it brought a couple more commitments that have snuck under-the-radar. The first of which was Indianapolis Howe (IN) guard Tony Truth who committed to Mount St. Joseph. Good get for the small school program as he can really play quick and finish at the rim.
The other was much bigger and more impactful as Fort Wayne Northrop (IN) forward Sydney Curry signed with Miami (OH). Now, he had initially committed to Miami during a visit a while back but rumors had been running that he wasn’t fully committed and might be keeping things open. But, with not a ton of to-do about it, he signed and will now head to Oxford, Ohio next year.
Then There Were Two
With all of those commits now in toe, you have just two names left at the top of our 2019 Prospect Rankings. Trayce Jackson-Davis and Keion Brooks Jr. Those two could conceivably commit anytime but could see scenarios where they would both hold out until the Spring.
Outside of those two, the rest of our Top 15 players in 2019 have committed and of our Top 20, only Dawand Jones, Simon Banks, and Mawich Kachjaani remain. Jones will have to decide between Power 5 football or Mid-Major basketball. Banks is looking at East Coast high academic or service academies, and Mawich is still searching for that first real offer.
That is it. The Top 20 is nearly complete and could be soon and Banks and Jones could commit during the season as well. Not going to be much left in the Spring for colleges looking still.
Quick Hitters:
2019 forward Trayce Jackson-Davis of Center Grove (IN) has pushed back his commitment for a couple weeks. It looked as though he could commit in the early signing period but not anymore.
2019 wing Xavier Hines of Noblesville (IN) has visits to IU-South Bend on December 18th and Point Park on December 1st. Possibly to Trinity International as well. Gaining interest from Goshen, Aquinas, Siena Heights, and IU-Northwest.
2019 guard Drew Comer of Greensburg (IN) is taking a visit to Thomas More on November 28th. Has interest from some DI programs along with Bellarmine, Emporia State, Grace, Dominican, and Michigan Dearborn.
2019 post Luke Richardson of Lapel (IN) is picking up new interest from Earlham and Trine. The 6’6 forward already has a good amount of interest from NAIA and DIII programs in the area.
2019 forward Michael Johnson of Concord (IN) now has offers from Aurora, Franklin College, and Culver-Stockton offers.
2019 guard Calvin Larkin of Winamac (IN) will take a visit to Greenville coming up. He currently has a Roosevelt offer.
