RCS Sports Season Opener: Standouts Pt.1
RCS Sports Season Opener 2018 kicked off this past weekend November 10th at the M.O. Campbell Center in Houston, TX. A total of 7 games were slated and the field was loaded with talent at all levels. We will start off with the first nine prospect who stood out from the first three games that were played.
Keiman Capers 6’6 PF Sr. North Shore – This 2 Star prospect used his size to his advantage. Capers played very composed and controlled the paint and glass. Has a nice touch around the rim. His game resembles old school post man using hooks and a lot of body for positioning. He finished with 17 points and 8 rebounds. His presence down low offensively and defensively helped led his team to the win. Would be a great fit D3/NAIA.
Jalen Means 6’7 PF Sr. North Shore – Means was super active on both ends of the floor. His long wingspan made him a threat defensively and on the boards. He was alter shots all morning long. Finished at a high rate around the rim and set a lot of solid screens. This 2 Star Prospect finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Look for Jalen to be a major contributor all season long for North Shore. Solid D3/NAIA prospect.
Dylan Miles 5’11 SG Jr. Humble – Dylan has been on a tare since this summer with his AAU/Grassroots team “F.A.M. Elite”. He is a corner specialist that has a quick release. A great catch and shoot player. He also displayed his ball handling skills which keeps improving. Shot very well from deep contested and uncontested. This 2 Star Prospect finished the game with 19 points shooting 5/8-3PT. Depending on how he grows physically and mentally position wise will affect his opportunity for the next level D2/D3.
Malik Nash 5’10 PG Jr. Humble – Malik is a 2 Star Prospect. Malik ball-handling was very crafty which led to a lot of open players on the floor. He was able to penetrate the lane with his quickness and finished floaters at a high rate of 3/3. Has quick lateral movement on defense but tends to overplay his man at times. Malik finished with 6 points, 3 steals, and 9 assist in the game. He’s a D3/NAIA prospect.
Noah Kon 6’1 PG So. Houston Christian – Noah Kon is a 3-4 Star Prospect and PHTX50. I was very impressed with how he controlled the game. He attacked the lane and beat his man off the dribble. You can tell that he has been in the weight room, as he is gaining definition in his body. He shot a lot of 3’s that weren’t falling. He was also very active on the boards. The kid has bounce. I’ll give him til next year where he will be coming down the lane dunking on people. He lived at the free-throw line where he went 18/21 shooting 85.7%. He carried his team to a victory and finished with 31 points and 13 rebounds.Noah has a lot of potential D1 High/Mid Major.
Kevin Baker 6’4 PF Sr. Sam Houston – Kevin is a 2 Star Prospect. Would be a great fit for a D3/NAIA school. Very physical and crafty power forward with a burst of quickness. He uses his body well to control the post. Active on the boards and runs the lane well in defensive transitions. Plays with great motor and finished the night with 21 points,13 rebounds, and 1 block.
Marlon Jackson 6’4 SF Sr. Sam Houston – Marlon is a 2-3 Star Prospect. He is a D1 Mid-Low Major/D2 Prospect and PHTX100 prospect. Marlon played big in the 2nd half of the game. Showed his ability to knock down a pair of contested 3’s. Was a force on the defensive side of the ball. Played with a great motor all game. He always gets his dunk in every game that I’ve seen him play. He is solid on the boards also. Marlon finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Jesse Zarzuela 6’3 PG Sr. Spring Woods – Jesse is a PHTX100 Prospect, a 4 star prospect who is committed to University of Texas at El Paso. He was a one man press breaker. Going coast to coast and finishing at the rim. Jesse can score at all 3 levels of the court. He also has very good court vision. Was able to change speed at will, which allowed him to control the tempo of the game. He showed off a fade away shot that is rare to see at this level. He finished the game with 29 points and 6 assist.
Nico Hardin 6’7 PF Sr. Spring Woods – Is a 2 Star Prospect who would be a great fit for a D3/NAIA school. Nico was very active all night long. He ran the floor really well. Nico was in the right places at the right time all game. His wingspan allowed him to block shots and alter shots. Played with some intensity which is a big step up from last year. He also had two dunks in the game. Nico finished the game with 10 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.
