There were debates about who should go where, new players added and one of the best developments – players that were high in the rankings that put in the work and are now a lot higher. Here are five big men that made the most movement heading into the 2018-19 season.
James Felton – Lincoln
Felton made this off season his own as he stood out in every single opportunity that we got to see him. He stood out at expos, tourneys and showcases and displayed why everyone is so high on this ultra-athletic big man for the Denver Prep League. He dunked, outrebounded and patrolled the paint every single time out and is exactly why he has popped up as the No. 15 player in the class this season. This is a huge season to improve his stock and get out to college coaches and see that they are getting one of Colorado’s most talented guys.
Logan Cecil – Thomas Jefferson
Cecil is a 6’8 big man with skill. He is one of the state’s best back to the basket big men and he uses his size and strength to get exactly what he wants. He runs the floor well, has a soft touch around the rim and catch everything that comes his way which makes him ideal for pick and roll situations. Once he gets it he does a great job of getting into the defender and either finishes through traffic or gets the foul call he wants. He now moves into the Top-20 in the class and should be a Denver Prep League standout as well as I expect Coach Laman to put him in successful situations to dominate.
Austin Holt – Thunder Ridge
Holt is one of the most versatile big men in the state as he can go inside and bang with his great size or open things up as he knocks it down from deep. A player this big with this touch makes it hard on the opposing team as it keeps them guessing the entire time on how to stop him. He put on aa clinic this summer as he really stood out and proved why he is one of the best bigs in the state. He is now in the Top 25 for the class with room to grow as I expect Thunder ridge to compete and really stand out with one of the top big men groups in the state. Holt should put up good numbers this season and be a player that the Grizzlies ride down the stretch as he has the ability to put teams away.
Bryson Becker – Platte Valley
Becker jumps into our rankings as the No. 29 player in the class if he was at a more known school that played against more power schools he would be much higher. Becker has great size and what really stands out with him is he always puts himself in the place to score. Becker is not afraid to bang inside and if you don’t watch out he will dunk the ball on your head. He has great footwork, gets off the ground quickly is great at finishing around the rim and is an above average shot blocker that covers so much ground. Becker is a complete player that will surely contribute this year as one of the best players in his league.
Kenneth Norman – Grandview
Kenneth isn’t a huge numbers guy but he is a player that does all of the small intangibles in the limited time that he does see the floor. He is a solid rim protector, a strong screen man, and excels around the rim as he can get there and finish. Norman makes sure that he is always near the rim and goes straight up after receiving the pass from a guard. He is capable of putting the ball on the floor and is a player that I would like to take a closer look at this season as he has now jumped to No. 39 in the class.
