Prospect Update: Martel Williams (2020)
Big and hard-to-handle, 6-foot-4 guard/forward Martel Williams is a guy who’s already established himself as one of Nevada’s best, but still has something to prove.
He’s been working this year to become a more multifaceted player, and defined himself as a “power guard.” And he’s eager to continue and refine his guard skill-set.
“I’m a good shooter and I can post-up and drive to the hoop. I’m like a power guard,” Williams said. “I’ve been working on my agility stuff and trying to jump higher and things like that.”
With Las Vegas Punishers 17U this past summer, Williams proved to be one of the best players on what was one of the West’s best teams.
“My role for the Punishers was to lead the team and get wins and it helped a lot with scoring and rebounding,” he said. “I was the top scorer and rebounder for that team.”
At Silverado last season, the then-sophomore was a little quiet, this season — Williams’ third as a starter — he’ll ramp it up a lot.
“My junior year, I’ll be more of a leader and will have to get on players and make the guys get better, get them in the gym,” he said. “I’ll have to score, play my hardest, get every rebound I can, and go 100 on every play.”
Right now, Williams reports offers from Central Arkansas, Lamar, Eastern Washington and Southern Mississippi. He reports interest from UNLV and Colorado State.
This year, he’s looking to prove that he’s one of the very best players in 2020.
“I want to get looked at more, and show people what I can do. I get looked over a lot because of my height and the way I play,” Williams said. “But if I’m given a chance, I can prove to all the player and coaches that I’m one of the top players in the Class of 2020.”
