Prospect Spotlight: Lazaro Borrell (2019)
Headed from Hialeah Gardens to Champagnat Catholic, Lazaro Borrell will be a major factor as a senior.
The 6’5″, 170-pounder just turned 17 three months ago. He averaged 6.6 PPG and 4.3 RPG in a limited role at Hialeah Gardens.
He’s already adjusting to his new squad in Class 3A-District 8.
“This is my first year at Champagnat but what I have seen so far since the summer with this team is that they are very hard workers,” Borrell said. “Everyone is trying their best and looking to get better.”
Over the summer, he played for Power Basketball.
Borrell has no offers yet, but he’s drawn interest from Georgia Tech and Western Nebraska.
He pointed to his biggest strengths as his defense, ability to listen to coaches and teammates and put in the work. He wants to continue to improve his confidence, athleticism and versatility.
Borrell has a chance to be a very solid all-around player for a Lions team that needs playmakers. He will get every opportunity to prove his worth. A postgrad year could be in his future, but for now the young senior is going to earn his biggest audition yet.
