Prospect Spotlight: Kenny White (2020)
Madisonville-North Hopkins is home to two of the best Juniors in the state. Kenny White is a versatile player who, at 6’7, can play multiple positions on the floor and has the length and agility to guard any spot on the floor. Coming off a summer where White earned scholarship offers from Kent State and Tennessee-Martin, he focused on improving his shooting leading up to his Junior season. Kenny told me, “I worked on my shooting and free throws going into the season.” Despite the summer offers, White said it has been pretty quiet with his recruiting in the fall, “I’m not really hearing from any schools right now.”
For the first time in many years, Madisonville has a realistic shot to win the second region. For that to happen, Kenny will have to meet his personal goal for the season. He told me, “My goal for the season is to be the best player that I can be every time I step on the floor.” In addition to his personal goal, he also has hopes of leading the Maroons to big championships this year. “My goal is to lead my team to win the King of the Bluegrass and then to win the state championship.” In order for that to happen, Kenny will need to perform up to or beyond his ranking as the number 3 player in the Junior class. White believes he is better than that ranking,”I know I’m the top player in the state and I know I’ve worked for it and as long as I work everything will fall in place.” For his team to reach White’s goal of multiple championships this season, he will need to take his game to an even higher level. If he can do that, Madisonville will be a legitimate threat to win the state championship.
