Jazer Thomas was one of the best perimeter defenders we saw at the South County Jamboree. The class of 2019 guard out of Mount Vernon, who was aggressive on the ball, and alert off the ball, racked up the steals with a high activity level. Thomas spoke on the improvements he’s made to his overall game, his role, and goals for the future during a recent interview.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your game?
JT: “I’m a defense first guy. I’m an aggressive guard who can attack the basket and score from the mid range.”
PH: What’s the most underrated part of your overall game?
JT: “My mid range. I don’t show it a lot, but it’s efficient.”
PH: What’s the most improved part of your game?
JT: “My defense. I struggled last year, but now it’s a strength of my game?
PH: How’d you get so good at defense?
JT: “Working. My dad helped me a lot; made me work on my quickness and agility.”
PH: What do you need to work on?
JT: “My passing, and my outside shot.”
PH: What are your short term goals?
JT: “To play college basketball. Major in mathematics.”
PH: What’s your role going to be this year?
JT: “Defending and attacking the basket. Scoring and facilitating.”
PH: What can you bring to a college program?
JT: “I’m a good listener. My defense, versatility, and leadership.”
