Prospect Spotlight: Dashawn Jackson (2021)
Frederick Douglass High School is only in it’s second year of existence but they have already proven that they are going to be a factor in Lexington area sports for the foreseeable future. They already reached the #1 ranking in football this season. They may also have the best underclassman basketball player in the city. Dashawn Jackson enters his sophomore year at Douglass expected to enter a leadership role as he is the best player at Douglass and will compete for the title of best player in the city of Lexington. To prepare for his second year at Douglass, Jackson told me, “I’ve been training my body, getting it stronger, increasing my vertical, working on my ball handling and getting my jump shot even better.” Dashawn is also starting to garner some college attention, Miami (Ohio) invited him to campus for underclassman day and several schools have been in the gym at Frederick Douglass this fall to watch Dashawn work out.
Jackson has some lofty goals for himself in only his sophomore year. “I want to make the all region team and average 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game. I also want to have at least 2 scholarship offers by the start of my Junior season.” As a young leader for Douglass, Jackson wants his team to make it to regionals, have above a .500 winning percentage, make the state tournament. To do that, everyone needs to buy into our system and not have any secret agendas.” Since being ranked near the top of the Sophomore class rankings, Dashawn sees some pressure on him this year. ” I feel like it just means that there are more people coming for my head each game wanting to show that they’re better than me. I can’t get caught up into it being a one on one game against other players and forget about trying to get the win for the team. But I also know that playing my game will help my team in winning games.” Dashawn Jackson is one of the top Sophomores in Kentucky and could be primed for a huge season.
