Prospect Spotlight: Dakota Rold (2019)
A top shot-blocker in Iowa, Dakota Rold has already pieced together a fine high school career at Exira-EHK, and this winter he could put a bow on that.
With great length, and standing 6-foot-7, Rold is a shot-blocking machine, and it’s defense in general where he makes his mark.
“I’m a good rim-protector for our team, and a good communicator. I see myself as a good defensive player,” said Rold, who averaged 3.3 blocks per game last season.
This summer, his Spartans team was active in the gym, both team camps and individual workouts gave Rold an opportunity to continue and hone his skill-set.
“We were playing games on a weekly basis, and I was also in the gym after school everyday while the football guys were practicing,” said Rold. “I would say my mid-long range jumper improved during the offseason.”
The Spartans have big-time expectations this season. Rold, and a slew of other top performers from a season ago return from last season’s 16-win team.
“Being a senior this year, I’m going to need to play a bigger role for the team, and become more of a leader for this team,” said Rold. “I’ll have to keep working on being a rim defender.”
Still very much available, Rold has no college offers available to him right now, rendering him one of the more under-recruited bigs in the state.
“My recruitment goals are just to get noticed by my desired college,” he said.
