Prospect Spotlight: Cory Prather (2019)
As he heads into his senior season at Davenport North, 5-foot-11 shooting guard Cory Prather has a lot to prove.
He played a minimal role with the Wildcats as a junior, averaging 2.9 points per game. After an offseason of steady improvement, he’s eager to show he can be a major impact player, and a leader.
“My strengths are my ability to shoot the ball, and being a leader,” said Prather.
The bulk of his development this past spring and summer came from playing with Showtime Hoopers 17U, one of the state’s more exciting grassroots squads.
“With Showtime Hoopers this summer, I feel like I improved in my overall confidence as a player, just being able to be free and play my role,” said Prather.
After a junior season as a role player off the bench with North, he now heads into his senior season as a key contributor and leader.
“At Davenport North last year, my role was to come off the bench to shoot it. But this year, I will have more of a leadership role and will have to help run the team with TJ (Vesey),” said Prather, the Wildcats’ second-leading returning scorer.
He added: “My goals are for myself are to be on first-team all-conference, and to have a chance to go to state.”
Prather’s recruitment is still an ongoing affair. He’s visited Upper Iowa and Dominican so far.
“I’m still looking for a good fit,” he said.
