Prospect Spotlight: Blake Chance (2021)
Many sophomores this season will have breakout seasons, and Albia 6-foot-3 guard Blake Chance is as likely as any to have one.
After a strong freshman season, Chance was working this past spring and summer to continue and evolve his skill-set. Starting next week, he’ll be showcasing his prowess with the Blue Demons as his sophomore season begins.
“This offseason, I’ve been working on becoming the point guard for this team, so I’ll be handling the ball a lot and getting other guys involved. And then scoring when I need to,” said Chance.
“I feel like my vision is good, and being able to score is one one my strong suits.”
He was playing with All Iowa Attack 15U this summer, that was one of the best grassroots teams in the Midwest. And it was greatly beneficial for him to get out and experience that kind of talent.
“Playing with one of the best teams in the state, it only made me better. And guarding guys that were bigger than me, that helped me a lot,” said Chance. “And just being around guys that were that good, I thought improved my game.”
Last season’s Albia team was senior-laden, the top two scorers are now graduated, and other key players, too. That leaves the door wide-open for Chance to take the reins, and have himself a monster sophomore season.
“The team is kind of looking at me this year to lead and get us moving in the right direction,” said Chance, who has a big year ahead.
“A big thing for me is getting stronger and getting into the weight-room, and then working on leading. And next summer playing with All Iowa Attack is going to help me even more, and hopefully I’ll get noticed by (college) coaches.”
