Prospect Spoltight: Anthony Swift (2021)
After spending his freshman season with Durango, 6-foot-4 forward Anthony Swift will spend this season with Desert Pines, and is ready to continue and establish himself as one of Nevada’s very best young prospects.
It’s his leadership ability that he mentioned first when asked to define his skills. Rebounding and shooting the ball are areas where he could flourish this season.
“I feel like my strengths are talking on the floor and communicating with my teammates. And I’ll go out and make the extra play if I need to,” said Swift.
“I feel like I could improve my ball-handling so I could better play the two and the three. But I’m good at rebounding and I can shoot the ball a little bit, it’s improving.”
This past spring and summer while playing with Vegas Elite 15U EYBL he was an energy guy; running the floor for dunks and snaring boards was his specialty.
“This offseason was pretty good. We should have won more games, but we just need to work harder. My role on the team was to rebound, get up the floor for fast-break dunks and just bring energy to the team,” said Swift.
Now, his sophomore season with Desert Pines is on the horizon.
“I fit better and I feel like I’ll have a bigger role here than I would at Durango,” said Swift. “And I get along with my teammates overall a lot better.”
He won’t be able to play this season because of the transfer rule. But Swift is still planning on making a major impact with his new team.
“During practice, I’ll be working on getting the starters better. I’ll make them go harder,” he said. “And when I’m on the bench while they’re playing, I’ll call things out and just be a vocal leader.”
As for recruitment, there’s still a couple years left for him to build an offers list. Right now, he reports Tulane and Portland as showing some early interest.
