Prospect Intro: Anthony “Rooster” Woodard (2021)
Not many people outside of the second region know about Sophomore Anthony “Rooster” Woodard but he aims to change that this season. Aside from getting ready for his second year of varsity basketball, Rooster also made a move across town to rival Logan County this summer. Regardless of where he plays his high school ball, Woodard is likely to be the best college prospect to come out of the Russellville area since Pedro Bradshaw (who now plays at Eastern Kentucky). To get ready for the season, Anthony has been working on his game. “I worked on my jumper and my dribbling this offseason”.
Rooster is looking to receive scholarship offers before finishing his time at Logan County and says he has some coaches inquiring about him already, “My coaches have told me that college coaches have been asking about me.” When colleges are allowed to contact 2021 prospects next June, Woodard is likely to get some texts and calls. In the meantime, Rooster has set some goals for himself and his Cougar teammates this season, “My goals this season are to work harder, get to the bucket more and become a lock down defender. My team goals are to make it to the regional tournament and earn a trip to Lexington.” Since breaking into the 2021 rankings last year, Woodard has hovered in the 8-15 range but he sees that ranking as motivation. “Being ranked does not put any pressure on me but what it does do is make me work even harder and get people to recognize my abilities.” Rooster Woodard is not only one of the best names in the class, he’s one of the best talents. Woodard is certainly one to track in the 2021 class as we move forward.
