With the basketball season set to begin in a few weeks, Prep Hoops Kansas is taking a look at some of the top players across the state in a wide range of categories.
Today, we take a look at several of the best available senior guards on the board.
AJ Dickerson, 6’4, G, 2019, Junction City
One of the state’s better 2 guards, Dickerson brings terrific size, strength and athleticism to the court. He has the ability to create his own shot off the dribble, can knock down the 3 and get to the basket off the bounce. He is a strong finisher capable of throwing down a dunk, but can also pull up off the dribble and knock down jumpers.
Jax Holland, 6’1, G, Maranatha Christian
One of the state’s most under-rated players, Holland is an athletic guard who can do a lot of different things on the court. He can handle the ball, create for himself or others, and is a knock down perimeter shooter. He has some bounce in his step and is capable of throwing down a dunk on the break, hauling in a rebound in traffic and has the kind of quickness required to get past his man.
Tymer Jackson, 6’0, PG, 2019, Olathe North
Jackson is one of the Kansas City area’s most skilled offensive players and is coming off a strong offseason running with Team KC. He has a well-rounded offensive game and is able to play either guard spot. He can shoot the 3, create off the bounce and get to the basket and uses an array of runners and floaters to score over and around bigger players in the lane.
Clearance King, 6’3, PG, 2019, Lawrence
King was putting together a huge offseason a year ago with KC Run GMC when his offseason was ended by injury. He made his way back into the Lawrence line-up this season, but was still getting his legs under him. He has a big frame and a diverse, well-rounded skill set for a point guard with a bright future.
Jaden Okon, 6’4, G, 2019, Wichita Heights
Okon has drawn significant interest from Division II programs and combines an emerging skill set with terrific athleticism. He is a streaky shooter who can get hot and score in bunches, is terrific in transition where he is capable of throwing down highlight reel dunks, and surprises opponents with chase down blocks and high flying rebounds.
