PHI Freshman Showcase: Team 8 Breakdown
The last bit of the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase is coming out over the next few days as we finish up our evaluations for the event. Today, we are looking at Team 8 and those players full breakdowns.
#18 Breece Walls
5’10 PG Valparaiso (IN)
Breece is a solid lead guard with great vision and handles. Didn’t overpower the offense because he was able to control things and lead the team. Thought he was good in the lane, likling to go to his left hand. Rebounds it okay from the guard spot and could get better there. Wanted to see a perimeter jumper that can work.
#58 Grant Ott-Large
6’2 SF LaPorte (IN)
Grant is a big wing that can score the ball in a ton of different ways. Was good in the lane, pushing his body around and being phsycial. Will need to get a little taller and develop the body but if he can, all that he does inside will get better and he already has a capable jumper that will become a bigger part of his game.
#78 Billy Smith
6’3 SF Brebeuf Jesuit (IN)
Billy is a long, tall wing with handles and scoring ability. Really good perimeter jumper and showed that he might be able to get into the middle of the floor and do the same. Has some fluidity but needs some strength to take his driving game up a level.
#93 Maxwell Sullivan
6’6 PF Whiteland (IN)
Max is a tall post player with a good amount of strength already. Showed a good elbow jumper off the catch. Was even able to stretch it out to three. Good stretch forward type that needs a little more foot speed to take game up a level. Good phsyical rebounder in the paint.
#1 Drew Hogan
5’7 PG Goshen (IN)
Drew is a small guard with some strength already. Shot the ball well and has a good, repeatable release that should be great off the catch. Solid going at the rim, uses speed to create space. Will need to develop some more creativeness with that finish as defenders get bigger but already pretty productive.
#45 Armoni Williams
6’0 SG Lafayette Jeff (IN)
Armoni is a big wing that showed he could shoot a bit. Was okay in transition where he could use his frame to defend the ball. Built more for off the ball and on the win, Williams could clean up the frame and gain a ton of speed pretty quickly, allowing him to be more efficient in transition.
#50 Ashton Johnson
6’1 SG Fort Wayne South (IN)
Ashton is a big wing that can shoot a little bit. Isn’t the quickest but bully balls guys in the lane. Could find a little more production picking his spots better but he’s plenty capable of having big offensive games. Best when he can play on the wing to catch and drive quickly, finding those mismatches.
#68 Hagen Knepp
6’3 SF Barr-Reeve (IN)
Hagen is a tall wing that could develop into a forward later on. Was good rebounding the ball, showing the ability to go outside of his area and get the ball. Has versatility on his side and while a bit thin, was pretty aggressive and phsyical in the post. Scored a good chunk of points off those boards.
#82 Ray Duncan
6’3 PF Fountain Central (IN)
Ray is a forward with a ton of strength and moves pretty well for his size. Will need to grow a bit to fit into the position but did show he has the shot to stay on the perimeter a bit. Was really solid getting up and down the floor. If he grows, he could be a tough matchup down low and a mismatch if he looks to shoot.
