PH Texas Report: 2020 Shooting Guards Vol. V
Jarren Cook / 6’3″ / SG / San Antonio Wagner / Level: Low-Mid Major
Strengths:
- Catch and shoot prospect with a good body
- Can hit the open three; smooth stroke from the outside
- Plays the role as a secondary ball handler
- Good rebounding guard: plays physical on the defensive glass
Weaknesses:
- Very streaky shooter; If he is not hitting shots from deep, he can be very quiet within a game
- Needs to improve point guard skills; transition more into a combo guard
- Does not score off the bounce; more of a spot-up scorer
- Needs to be more aggressive and look to attack the basket; does not use his body enough to shield off defenders offensively when slashing
K.J. Pruitt / 6’3″ / SG / Lewisville / Level: Low-Mid Major
Strengths:
- Athletic guard with long arms; high upside on the defensive end
- Secondary ball handler; strong with the ball in his hands
- At his best when slashing to the rim
- Scores in transition; strong finisher at the rack in the open floor and in half-court situations
Weaknesses:
- Needs to improve perimeter jumper; can create separation and get good looks, but can not always convert on opportunities
- Attended three schools in his first three years of high school; switches summer teams frequently; questionable commitment
Journee Phillips / 6’2″ / SG / San Antonio Wagner / Level: Division II-Low Major
Strengths:
- Developing slasher who could be a solid two-way combo guard if he continues to work
- Very aggressive; attacks the rim at will; strong and acrobatic finisher in the paint; target for and-one opportunities
- Strong body; plays physical and competes to battle for offensive rebounds and loose balls;
- Improved ball handler; plays hard on both ends
Weaknesses:
- Offensive game still needs improvement
- Needs to work on perimeter jumper; not a threat from 17 feet and out
- Plays like a power forward in a combo guards’ body
