Northeast Faces White House Scare
The Eagles of Northeast faced a mounting list of injured players, including star senior Alec Kegler (PrepHoopsTN #26).
Could they defeat a veteran, technically-exceptional White House High School team?
In a word, No.
Combined seven starters missed a riveting White House win, 58-56. While both teams were missing players Northeast’s senior and junior classes hardly had representation.
White House is composed of many seniors with numerous years of varsity experience.
Watch the closing minute.
Tomario Vereen (PrepHoopsTN #111 in 2020) stepped to the free throw line with two guaranteed free throw attempts.
He swished the first, banged the second awry. Starved for a win Northeast wrestled the basketball loose and regained possession only to make a sloppy, telegraphed perimeter pass. Jared Ward intercepted the pass, sprinted to the corner, and made a single free throw to ensure victory.

The Blue Devils narrowly averted disaster despite Jacob McDonald (PrepHoopsTN #158 in 2020) missing consecutive front-ends.
Northeast Sophomores
Devoid of their senior leadership, coming off an early afternoon loss to Bearden, Head Coach John Stigall’s sophomores played well.
Keaton Allen shot very well, scoring 17 points. Fifteen of his points came in tge second half.
Juntavious Harris gave 18 points to the cause. Unfortunately, Harris failed to score more than three second half points.
Fouls poisoned his output.
Marcus Averhart finished off three three-pointers on six tries. He finished with eight points in the loss.
