North Florida’s UTR Showcase: Top 6 to watch this season
Marquez Ray – Andrew Jackson High School – 2021 6’8 PF/C
Marquez is a long shot blocker and solid re bounder. He also showed a smooth shooting stroke out to about 12 ft. With a step to the basket he’s attempting to dunk everything! He will need to continue to improve his conditioning as he had stretches where fatigue seem to get the best of him. He’s thin, but carries a nice frame and seeing as he’s just beginning his 10th grade season, he should be fine over the next few years with a steady dose of strength training. One weakness was his perimeter and pick & roll defense. He’ll need to continue to improve his agility and lateral quickness to excel on the next level. Coaches coming to Jacksonville should be stopping by to see the young big.
Jahsean Corbett – Poinciana High School – 2021 6’6 G/F
Jahsean was a bright spot at the showcase. He displayed ability to play 1-4. he shot well from deep off the catch, and attacked strong to the basket off the bounce. He scored at all three levels. He pushed the ball off the defensive glass and made a few nice dishes in transition. While not overly athletic, he plays with a pace and understanding beyond his years. his handle will need to improve, but he looks primed for a good season. currently an average defender with good instincts.
Isaiah Adams – Paxon School for Advanced Studies – 2020 6’7 G/F
Adams was a man among boys at the 2nd Annual Under the Radar showcase. He’s shooting the ball really well from 3, and got to the basket for monstrous dunks all day. He used his seven foot wingspan to block shots and get his hands in passing lanes for break away dunks. He crashed the offensive glass for put back slams and showed great vision in transition. A dominant lefty, He’ll need to continue to add strength to his wiry frame and improve his ball handling. Adams could crack national rankings soon if he continues to develop at this pace. While there will be a big hole left to fill by the graduation of Douglas Williams (FR., Eckerd Tritons), The Eagles should make up for it with experience as they had 8 underclassmen at the core of last years squad. Expect a breakout year for Adams and the young Eagles squad. He’s looking to build on a Sophomore campaign that saw him average 18 points, 12 board, 4 assist and 3 blocks. Currently he has offers from schools in the A10, ASUN, AAC, and Conference USA.
Dallan Coleman – West Nassua High School – 2021 6’4 G
Dallan showed why he’s currently one of the Nations top guards in his class. he played well through the day attacking the basket at will and hitting jump shots from all levels off the dribble. he showed good body control and didn’t shy away from contact. During the all-Star game he hit multiple threes from beyond NBA range and made big plays to lead his squad to a close victory. With his length and athleticism he has potential to be a really good perimeter defender. He and his Warrior teammates have a chance to make some noise this season. As a freshman they went 10-16 with one senior and 7 underclassmen. They will go as he does this year returning the core of their group.
Quinnton Jackson – Paxon School for Advanced Studies – 2021 5’8 PG
For all that he lacks in stature, “Q” Jackson sure makes up for in heart. Great competitor and tenacious on ball defender. He picked up full court all day and made it tough on guys to get to their spots. He does a great job of anticipating and plays without reaching. He took extreme pride on that end, often times chatting at guys after forcing turnovers or stopping guys from scoring. While Defense is his calling card at this time, he made baskets in bunches using his quickness in transition to score before help defense could get set. He struggled at times to finish, attempting to get too deep in the paint. He will have to utilize the midrange jumper and make more plays for others to be more effective in the half court. His past summer spent on the Addidas Gold Guantlet with 2021 CP25 seems to have really boosted his confidence. Playing for a Paxon squad that graduated only 1 senior, look for him to have a solid second campaign.
Jaylen Martin – Florida High School – 2022 6’5 G/F
Jaylen was one of the best players in the building and certainly among his class. He’s one of the best 2022 prospects in the state with his combination of size, skill, and versatility. At this young stage of his development, its still early to suggest a position, and his ability to play both inside and out didn’t make that designation any easier. Martin is a true competitor that showed a great feel for the game at such a young age. He attacked the basket well in transition and the half court. He posted smaller guards, and attacked bigger guys off the bounce. He made plays at all three levels and was extremely active on the boards. Martin will need to continue to develop his handle and outside jumper. he played the passing lanes well, but will need to improve as a primary on ball defender. He should have ample opportunity at Florida High this year and is definetely a player to watch over the next 4 years.
